Shopping for a Projection Television

You’ve already decided to get a big screen television. Projection televisions are usually above the 40-inch size. There are so many brands and different technologies, how do you know what is right for you? You could spend online reading about the different displays, but the best way is to actually view the TVs side by side.

You will notice that most projection screen televisions are located in a darker section of the floor. Projection TVs are best displayed in a dark area, so you retailer can show off the picture even better. In different lighting conditions, projection TVs performs differently. LCD projection TVs are great in a bright are because they can display brighter images.

Position yourself away from the projection TV as if you were at your home.  Look at the display unit with other units and compare the color, contrast and clarity of the images. The big factor is to move around the projection TV to find out if there are problems with viewing angles. You can sometimes tell that picture degrades if you are watching in different viewing angles. Another viewing angle is standing up as opposed to sitting down, like watching a sporting event.

If possible, try to view the same projection TV in other retail outlets. It would be a good way to compare the picture quality in different conditions. If there is a difference, you may want to inquire with a sales associate what tweaks you may have to do the television.

Usually, retailers are showing off their product in high definition mode. Please ask to see the signal in standard definition. Not all programming is in high definition. You do not want to be surprised when you purchase the unit to see a substandard picture on standard definition signal.
