Sony KDF-E55A20 Review
(Retail $ 2,799.99)
This KDF-E55A20 LCD rear projection HDTV is Sony's entry level to 55 inch screens. This particular model is aimed for the budget conscious consumers who don’t want to spend a lot money on a 60-inch plasma. The Sony KDF-E55A20 is aimed to deliver a good picture quality with the Sony’s Wega system. The Wega engine is described as detailed picture quality from any video source to minimize the digital-to-analog conversion process. The KDF-E55A20 uses a 3LCD technology which used 3 LCD panels to produce an image.
The major features of the KDF-E55A20 are:
- Resolution of 1366 x 768
- 1 HDMI Connection, 2 Component video Inputs
- Digital Card Ready
- SRS TruSurround audio
- WEGA Engine™ system: WEGA Engine HD video
- Tuner: ATSC/NTSC
- Memory Stick viewer
- 2 Built in Speakers
The picture quality of the Sony in the HDTV format is fairly impressive. The only complaint is that there could be better contrast when it comes to blacks or grays. The standard definition on analog cable is not that great, but eventually most programming will be in high definition anyways.
The KDF-E5A20 is incased in a silver box, while the picture is surrounded by a grey/dark sliver tone. It's not as nice as the XBR, but it's still a nice clean design. The speakers are attached on the side of the unit. This unit weighs in at approximately 92.5 lbs.
There is a fair price separation between the Sony KDS-R60XBR1 and the Sony KDF-E55A20. The XBR has more inputs, more resolution and more bell and whistles. If you have room for a cabinet-style TV and if you're budget conscious for a 55 inch monitor, then you should examine the Sony KDF-E55A20 in your home.
