Sony KDF-E60A20 Review

(Retail $ 3,299.99)

The Sony Wega KDF-E60A20 is a 60” LCD rear projection HDTV that delivers good picture quality. The Wega engine is described as giving a detailed picture quality from any video source to minimize the digital-to-analog conversion process. The KDF-E60 uses a 3LCD technology which used 3 LCD panels to produce an image.

The major features of the Sony KDF-E60A20 are:

  • Resolution of 1366 x 768
  • 1 HDMI Connection, 2 Component video Inputs
  • Cable Card Ready
  • SRS TruSurround audio
  • WEGA Engine™ system: WEGA Engine HD video
  • Tuner: ATSC/NTSC
  • Memory Stick viewer
  • 2 Built in Speakers

The picture quality of the Sony KDF-E60A20 with a HDTV video feed is fairly impressive. The only complaint is that there could be better contrast when it comes to blacks or grays. The standard definition on analog cable is not too good, but eventually most programming will be high definition anyways.

The KDF-E60A20 is cased by a silver box, while the picture is surrounded by a grey/dark sliver tone. It's not as nice as the XBR, but the KDF-E60A20 still has a nice clean design. The speakers are attached on the side of the unit. This unit weighs in at approximately 101 lbs.

There is a fair price separation between the Sony KDS-R60XBR1 and the Sony KDF-E60A20. The XBR has more inputs, more resolution and more bell and whistles. If you can not justify the extra jump in price the Son KDF-E60A20 should be on your list.
