Sony KDS-R50XBR1 Review
(Retail $3,499.99)
This is the 50-inch version of Sony’s flagship rear projection HDTV. As with the 60” model, it produces an eye popping picture that gives deep contrast levels, bold colors and great detail. SXRD stands for Silicon X-Tal reflective display which enhances response time of image movement.
The casing of the Sony KDS-R50XBR1 is silver with the speakers attached to the side. It would have been nice if the speakers were detachable. The monitor itself is surrounded by a black border with the glass display protruding out. It makes the KDS-R50XBR1 seem like a flat panel screen that is inside a casing. You have to look closely to see that this is a larger unit with depth and a weight of around 90lbs.
The features ofthe 50” KDS-R50XBR1 SXRD are:
- Resolution of 1920 x 1080
- 2 HDMI Connection, 2 Component video Inputs
- SRS TruSurround audio
- WEGA Engine™ system: WEGA Engine HD video
- Tuner: ATSC/8VSB
- Memory Stick viewer
Personally, I think the KDS-R50XBR1 is a wonderful unit that is more in comparison with Plasmas or LCD’s in the 50inch range. If you have room for a deep TV like this 50” KDS-R50XBR1, you should this on your list. The sharp contrast almost makes it near CRT levels. Make sure you compare the imaging between your units before making this decision.
